Chapter 5 Nervous Conditions

In this chapter of nervous conditions we have problems with little miss Nyasha AGAIN! It seems as though nyasha likes drama and trouble. In this chapter nyasha decides to read an inapropriate book and her mom told her to stop reading it but nyasha decided to bring the book to the dinner table. For the first time in this book, nyasha's parents stuck up for themselves and told nyasha that the way she behaves isnt okay. But, after her parents fuss at her she goes back to her normal ways. She goes to smoke whenever she's stressed. Nyasha seems like she wants to rebel against anything her parents say.

Even though in this chapter nyasha is singled out when she rebels, i think that the author of this novel is trying to focus on tambu. In this chapter tambu finds herself and discovers what she apporves of and what she dissaproves of. Tambu definetly doesnt agree with nyasha's ways such as smoking and her overall attitude. Whenever tambu and nyasha went to bed nyasha decided to be a brat and tambu finally stood against nyashsa. This made tambu feel superior which was something new for her. Also in this chapter tambu dreams about her brother. In this dream tambu is smoking which symbolizes that she is accepting nyasha's way and that she is letting nyasha influence her.  Maybe this is foreshadowing?
