Some People Like Poetry by Wislawa Szymborska

In english, we had to annotate a poem of our choice. I chose to annotate the poem "Some people like poetry". the author had a cool way of introducing each paragraph. She said parts of the title in each part. So for example she started the first paragrpah by saying "some people" then the second paragraph by saying "like" and the third paragraph by saying "poetry". This poem also has a lot of assonance with the sound "ee". For example "everybody, majority, even, minority, be". In this poem, assonance  brings out the words majority and minority which maybe are the main words of this poem. There is also assonance of the sound "oo". For example "schools. noodle, soup, blue".

There was also a lot of alliteration in this poem which is whenever the first sound of a word is repeated. For example "majorty and minority, compliments and color, our own". In this poem, alliteration makes these words sound important in the poem. There is also repitition in this poem. The phrase "dont know" is repeated multiple times

  1. Mia, you got the sound patterns here - assonance, alliteration, and I would add repetition - I would add the "not" repeated in the first stanza and the "We like" repeated in the second, as well as the "don't know" that you pointed out in the third. But try to bring your observations into an overall interpretation of the poem. What is she doing here in the poem as a whole? Why does each stanza (not paragraph) begin with some piece of the "some people like poetry" title? How does each stanza relate to its beginning line? What's Szymborska's point here?
