Poem Analysis

The author int he poem, Those winter Sundays, used dark and light, a lot of assonance, and personification. She also used emjambment. The author, Robert Hayden, used a lot of assonance with the vowel "a" maybe to make the peom come off less tense. Maybe this signifies that this part isnt dark or negative.
an example of assonance from this poem is "...Then with cracked hands that ached".

Other techniques that the author uses in the poem are light and dark and personification. These techniques are usued, but they arent used as much as assonance and emjambment. an example of light are the words good and love. Examples of dark are the words chronic angers and lonely. An example of enjambment is

"and put his clothes
on in the blue black cold"

Light and dark adds flavor to the poem and personification makes the readerthink about what she just read. Enjambment makes the reader take their time when reading.

The train to pakistan

In the pages that i read in these three days, the book got serious. Even though i don't understand much that's happening in the book because of the hard to understand muslim terminology, the book is getting interesting. I have to read really slowly because of these terms. I also have to keep my computer handy when i read so i can sort of understand what i read. Maybe i should move onto a diffeent book, because im not too interested in this book, its hard to read, and there are a lot of unfamiliar words. I'm thinking about re-reading the hunger games because it is so popular now. But at the same time i can't re-read books, so i might just continue the series! I might as well finish this book until i finish it because it could potentially get easier to understand. Hopefully this books gets more interesting because i want to fall asleep when i read it. Plus, the plot line is hard to follow because first of all there are no chapters and the author doesnt explain much about what is going on in the book. I read 50 minutes for three days so that i could be done with my reading before i leave for destin. Who wants to read in destin????

Destin Trip!

I am doing my freepost early for this week! I am so excited today because in just TWO DAYS i am going to destin, florida for a cheer competition! I'm staying there for 4 days! I can't wait to go because i love competitions and a competition on the beach is even better! I also love the fact that i get to get some actual sun, hang out with my friends ON THE BEACH, and stay out all night playing on the beach. Beach trips have always been my favorite!

The only bad part about this trip is that i will be missing two days of school. I will also have a lot of work to make up. That's the bad part because who wants to do homework while you could be laying out on the beach with your friends? For sure i don't want to do that but i'll have to do it because i've been on this "do all your homework strike". I'll probaably just finish everything before we leave to go to destin so i will be able to spend the most of my time having fun! I can't wait to go

The Train To Pakistan

In french class we still have to read each day. So i have been reading my french book. It's a kids book so its pretty boring, lacks details, and doesnt have an intense plot. Even though this is a kids book i have been reading the same book for the past two weeks because i am a slow reader and its a long book AND it's in french so it takes even more time to read!

For my nervous conditions project, my group and i are reading the train to pakistan and we are going to relate that to the novel nervous conditions. Whenever i have extra time and whenever i dont have to read my french book, i read the novel train to pakistan. now i have been reading this book for about a week and i havent gotten very far into it because of the fact that i have been reading two books at once. Hopefully i dont have to cram all of my reading into one weekend, but however i get it done i am finishing this book!!

This upcoming weekend i am going to avani's house! On saturday she is preforming at the st jude fair so i am going to see her that day! i love to hear avani sing because she is so good! After the fair is over we are going to go to her house and work on our english project with cole because cole and avani live next to each other. We plan on getting our whole nervous conditions project finished on saturday! Then after we are done with our project i am going to sleep over at avani's house.

I look forward to this weekend because i have been so stressed lately! I have had so much on my plate and it wil be nice to just get away from cheer, home life, and homework, and be able to go have fun this weekend. Hopefully avani and i have fun at her house! I love going to avani's house because her family is so warm and welcoming and she has the cutest new dog! I feel like i can be myself around avani and thats why i look forward to hanging out with her in a couple of days!

The Train To Pakistan

This week for outside reading i read the book train to pakistan. So far, this book is okay. I feel like i can't relate to it because it is set in india, and it has a lot of muslim terms. It is a hard book to read because of these unfamiliar terms. This book is actually very hard to read but i am going to keep reading it because its interesting! Hello, who doesnt want to read about a train coming into a small town filled with dead bodies caused by a war/fight going on at the time.

Before i got the book, the train to pakistan, i just continued to read my book for french like i said in my paast ttwo blogs. Honestly i dont like this book. I feel like im back in kindergarden because im reading a french book about a vampire and his family doesnt like him so he has to make new friends. Im sorry but this author needs a more detailed story because im bored with this book.

School Work

At the beginning of this year, i wrote a blog about how my freshman year was so far. But that was towards the middle of the year. Now it's close to the end of my freshman year. Whenever i came into highschool i was so scared. I was scared of the seniors, of the classes, of the teachers, and of the homework. Honestly i can say that i was scared for nothing! If anything freshman year has been beneficial to me because it taught me not to just slack off on work and to do the best quality work that i can do.

Its sad that freshman year is almost over! I feel like this year, my grade has bonded a lot! There isnt as much cliquiness, there was hardly any drama, and i just feel like i have so many more friends! Freshman year has helped me and it was so much easier than i expected it to be. Ever since i was little i have heard the high school is so hard, but so far it was a breeze! I finished 3 quarters with all a's and b's and my goal for the fourth quarter is all a's. In past years i never thought that was possible but this year i really think that its possible!

Parlez-Vous Francais?

This week in french class we have to read french books every night. This is what i''m counting for my outside reading. In my last outside reading blog i mentioned how reading in french helps in me english and french and this is true! It helps my reading skills in both languages. It helps my french because im reading french and i am on my own to understand what im reading. It helps me in english because i notice literary elements.

When reading Nervous Conditions, I learned how to notice things in literature. When reading in french i notice things in french too! I actually like reading in french better than i do in english because it helps two subjects instead of one at the same time! Hopefully i can get better at reading in french and read harder books instead of junie b jones. Also, maybe one day i wil be able to compare french literature to english literature

Zoey!

So today, i had no idea what to write about. I'm doing all of my homework before cheer today and me and Avani are working together by talking to each other on skype. Her dog Zoey seems to love the camera because i hardly see avani on the camera, i ony her her frisky puppy. Zoey is a cockapoo and she's ADORABLE! I love her!

One day after school i went to the chapel to be picked up and my mom was late. Avani and her family  passed by and we had a nice conversation and then avani got out of her car and zoey was with her! this was the first day that she had zoey. Zoey is so cute! She's white and fluffy and if i had the chance i would totally snatch her up and bring her home. This dog just has the cutest personality!

Nervous Conditions Chapter 10

This is the last chapter of nervous conditions and it kind of dissapointed me. I expected this chapter to be exciting because tambu is going to a new school, but honestly this chapter was boring. It just explained how life was at the convent. One thing that i found interesting was that tambu was the only african american in the convent. All of the other dorm rooms had 4 girls in them and the nuns made all of the colored people stay in one room! there was supposed to be six of them but the novel never really explained that part.

Another interesting part of this novel is that dangarembga decides to come out and say that nyasha is bulimic. In a couple past chapters there has been evidence that nyasha was bulimic such as nyasha continueously excusing herself from the dinner table about eating and then going to the bathroom. Its sad that nyasha is bulimic because there are poor hungry kids walking around on this earth and nyasha has all the food she wants but she takes advantage of this food because her looks are more important. I dont agree with this at all! The way the author ended the book wasnt the best but since the ending wasnt amazing and didnt reveal too much i want to read the sequel!

Aloha Ha Ha

This week in french class we were assigned to read a french book for homework. One would think that reading  completely french book would be hard. I am reading a french book my level which is junni b jones Aloha ha ha. I feel like im back in kindergarden reading these books all over again.

I am surprised how reading in french has become an easy skill for me. At the beginning of the year i never wouldve thought that i could read a completely french book. Now i can! this is an accomplishment for me! I actually like reading in french more than english because i get to challenge my knowledge of french words and grammar and i also have to comprehend whats going on in the novel in my mind in english. Also i notice patterns and literary devices which helps me englishwise! hopefully i soon move to more of a novel level so that the actual story challenges my mind in english and french!

NNervous Conditions Chapter 9

In this chapter, it is revealed that nyasha is bulimic. The thing that i find odd about this situation is the fact that tambu sees nyasha in the bathroom and yet tambu asks no questions. Is this okay with tambu? Does tambu actually care for nyasha or is she like babamukuru and just cares about what people say about his family and who doesnt care about their famly? I think that tambu cares for nyasha like a sister and that is why i find it weird that tambu doesnt question nyasha about this.

Something else that was important in this chapter is that nuns come to the mission where nyasha and tambu attend school. The children attending the mission thought that the nuns were there just because. The real reason why the nuns were there was to interview children from the mission to attend Sacred Heart (the school of the nuns). Tambu was tested without her knowing and she did very well on this. In one way i am hapoy because tambu will get a better education but something bad about her leaving is that she has to leave nyasha. Nyasha really cares for tambu so its sad to watch nyasha mourn about tambu saying that she is going to the new school.

New Orleans

This weekend i am going to new orleans. I have a cheer competition there! I love new orleans. Even though it is thursday and this is due on monday i still wanted to write about my future weekend. My mom and I will be going to the PARTY CITY! But we wont have much time to walk around or go to the french quarter because i have to compete both saturday and sunday. My friend bailey will be joining us and it will be so much fun!

Normally, whenever bailey stays with us for a competition or we stay at the same hotel, we go around the hotel having fun or going swim or finding friends. But in new orleans sadly this wont happen. I dont have anything against the city of new orleans, but i just dont always feel safe there. I watched the movie taken about a week ago, and yesterday in the car my mom was talking to me about being safe in new orleans because if im not then ill later become the star of taken. This really got me thinking about walking around new orleans without my mom. Even though we are going to be more safe about things than usual, this weekend is going to be extremely fun!
